Part of a large Banded Stilt flock feeding in the shallows of Wellstead Estuary . Banded Stilts (Cladorhynchus leucocephalus) are mostly found in southern Australia, and migrate in their hundreds to inland salt lakes for breeding when they fill. The breeding lakes are often hundreds of kilometres inland from the more coastal habitats that these birds occupy when not breeding, but their large populations of brine shrimps make then ideal breeding sites. These adult Banded Stilts were part of a flock of more than 80 birds that was feeding in the shallows of Wellstead Estuary at Bremer Bay on the south coast of Western Australia. Elevation: 0 m.
