A pair of Upland Geese swimming with 12 goslings in the Strait of Magellan. The mainland race of the Upland Goose (Chloephaga picta picta) is found from central Chile and Argentina south to Tierra del Fuego. The Upland Goose is the commonest Chloephaga goose species, and is exclusively vegetarian, feeding mainly on short grasses, seed heads and sedges. Upland Geese have also been reported to feed on green seaweeds. This family of a white and black male, brown female and twelve goslings of two age classes was swimming in waves just offshore in the Straits of Magellan at Punta Arenas in Chile. There were a couple of Crested Ducks swimming nearby. Elevation: 23 m. Date added to IBC: March 4, 2019.
