White Ibises perching and preening in the Serpentine River – closer view. The Australian White Ibis (Threskiornis moluccus) is very common in northern and eastern Australia and is becoming more common in Western Australia. Unlike Straw-necked Ibises, White Ibises are scavengers as well as predators of invertebrates, frogs and fish, and are often found in large numbers on landfill sites. These birds were perching and preening on a dead tree in the Serpentine River near peel Inlet, south of Perth. Elevation: 1 m. Date added to IBC: July 13, 2018.
