A subadult Greater Ani perching near a nesting colony of Red-rumped Caciques. The Greater Ani (Crotophaga major) is a non-parasitic cuckoo that id found over most of north-eastern and north central South America. Greater Anis occur in a range of humid forest and wetland types and in mangroves. They mainly eat insects, small vertebrates, fruit and some seeds. They nest communally, with groups defending their territory from invaders. This subadult Greater Ani was perching in a tree next to a noisy colony of Red-rumped Caciques near the entrance of Iguazú National Park in northern Argentina. Elevation: 218 m.
