A Toco Toucan with food near its nesting hollow. The spectacular Toco Toucan (Rhamphastos toco) is the largest and best-known species of Toucan. It is the only non-forest species of Toucan, and lives along forest edges where it feeds mainly on fruit, but will also take insects and nestling birds. A pair pf Toco Toucans were nesting in a tree hollow just above the heads of tourists at a lookout near the Belmond Hotel das Cataratas in Iguacu National Park in southern Brazil. This bird had food in its beak – it then hopped out of view to feed its chicks in the nest hollow nearby. Elevation: 125 m. Date added to IBC: February 20, 2019.
