Female Western Grey Kangaroo lying down with a cheeky Willie Wagtail on her back. The Willie Wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys) is the largest species of fantail and is one of Australia’s best-loved birds. Willie Wagtails are found in a wide range of habitats across much of the continent, and in urban areas are very confiding. They are active most of the time and often associate with larger mammals, stealing hair for their neat cup-shaped nests or using them to flush the small insects they eat. This Willie Wagtail was hunting under the belly of a female Western Grey Kangaroo, and then perched on her back when she lay down. Elevation: 28 m. Date added to IBC: May 22, 2018.
