A female Lesser Redpoll foraging in a copper beech. This individual is at the very pale end of the spectrum for Lesser Redpoll and was initially considered to be a Mealy / Common Redpoll (A. f. flammea) due to the dark isolated ear coverts, fairly large size, and a rather frosty appearance on the upperparts with well defined "tramlines" on the mantle, however there are buff tones to the flanks and the flank streaks are relatively uneven, suggesting Lesser Redpoll. Pale Lesser Redpolls are often found in Spring (March and April particularly) and can easily be mistaken for migrant Mealy / Common Redpolls. Elevation: 21 m. Date added to IBC: April 8, 2019.
