Détails de l'observation
Despite the close views, identification of this silent bird was not actually straightforward. Many field guides (e.g. Howell & Webb 1995, Vallely & Dyer 2018) point out that the primary edges are dark in Mountain Trogon and white in Collared and Elegant trogons. However, the tail pattern best fits immature male Mountain Trogon, the common (and only?) trogon at this location. Note that the uppertail appears blackish (!?) in one of the photos. A review of Mountain Trogon photos in ML shows that some Mountain Trogons show those whitish primary edges and others don't. Could this be age-related? Many immatures and some adult-plumaged birds (young adults?) seem to show it.
