Détails de l'observation
When arriving at the site, I immediately noticed a gull in the flooded field and my first impression was that it wasn’t a Ring-billed, by far the expected species here. Before I could get out of the car the gull took flight and I attempted to photograph the bird shooting out my car window before it could get too far. I managed to fire off four shots, three of which were out of focus. The other turned out to be a perfectly useful document shot. The gull in the photo showed long wings with black tips, a pale rump, black legs and a long, drooping bill that was slightly open in the shot. The bird was roughly RBGU-sized but seemed to have an overall slimmer body. Consulting with The Yumans resulted in the identification of this bird as a Laughing Gull, a rare species for the county. The bird eventually flew out of sight to the south.
