Commentaires

Recorded between 2100 and 2126. Common Nighthawks are abundant at Altona Flat Rock, and there were typically 3-5 nighthawks visible in the general area of the microphone zeppelin at any given time. The loudest sounds in the recording, at the end of the first segment and start of the second segment, came when three individuals repeatedly circled around the zeppelin while chasing each other. These birds were approximately 1-2 meters from the zeppelin, and only 2-3 meters above the ground. It was light during the entire recording, and no moon was visible. Clear sky, calm, approximately 65°F. The habitat where the microphones were placed is an extensive cement area (the remnant of an old dam site) with small boulders and scattered shrubs and early-successional tree species. Decoded MS Stereo recording. The microphones were located approximately two meters above the ground, with the zeppelin pointed upward. The two segments of this recording are nearly continuous, with just a brief pause between them to adjust the record level. Other Behaviors: Booms. Equipment Notes: Decoded MS Stereo recording. Microphones located approximately six feet above the ground, with the zeppelin pointed upward.
