Breeding plumaged Pacific Loon, a late migrant at Longview Lake.
Détails de l'observation
Full breeding plumage adult! First noticed around 2:15 pm, from the dam looking south, seemingly a strange loon, but to far away to tell and actively diving. Then thought I saw it around 2:30 pm from Pk #3. But confirmation was achieved soon after from end of Pk #14, looking southeast, where bird was actively trying to feed. After awhile it came swimming past end of Pk #14, and last seen heading northward towards the dam. Bird was obviously present during at least 1:45-3:45 pm. Didn't see it this morning, but if present, perhaps it was underwater a lot. Else it arrived in late morning and was feeding. Note that two Common Loons are on the Lake as well (but not associated with this Pacific). All full breeding plumaged marks seen: Gray crown/nape, black throat/upper breast, faint 'chinstrap', white patch marks across back, darkish feathering around eye and thin, shorter bill vs. other loons and overall obviously smaller than the Common Loons on the Lake.
