Détails de l'observation
A male seen on the main lake early and with the other ducks on the southern part of the lake later had a dark brown head with some white flecking at the base of the bill, generally dark brown upperparts, apart from some fresh scapulars with fine black-and-white vermiculation, and even more obviously white flanks. This bird also had a smoothly rounded head and a large bill that had a conspicuously large and triangular nail at the tip. Given that its eyes were yellow as opposed to brown, I suspect this was an adult male coming out of eclipse plumage as opposed to a first-fall bird. I took several photos of this bird when it was with the flock on the southern lake and relatively approachable.
