This animal had been housed in a fireplace popcorn popper for about a week before recording. This was a difficult cage for the animal to live in because the ceiling (wire top) did not allow it to stand up without touching its head. The calls were elicited from the animal simply by passing a hand over the top of the cage. Under the circumstances one could assume that the animal was easily irritable. Age: sub-adult? There are 2 short sections of chattering noise in this recording. Although it was not seen, this is the noise that Microtus makes with its teeth. Noise in the background is the tape recorder motor. Mike started out four feet from recorder and facing away from it. The mike was moved closer during the recording. This individual was captured in an old field on Lansing Station Road in Lansing.
