Détails de l'observation
**rare; distant photos as it swam in the middle of the lake after flying a short distance to the east; only identifiable to species in scope, but those views clearly showed dark ear patch, thin dark nape extending to mid-crown, narrow and medium long black bill (too distant to see any pale even if present), breast white but with gray wash extending in on breast sides, upperparts almost blackish with some longitudinal paler lines and a misplaced tertial or something near the rear that was quite white. Size and structure also matched Red-necked well, being thin-necked and pin-headed. The ID was based primarily on back color and pattern, however. No inland records were mentioned for S Annam by Robson, but he did mention inland records for C Annam. Perhaps a first local record? Best (!) iPhonescoped image:
