Western Grebe
Détails de l'observation
The Western Grebe was first located by Greg Swick and Kendell Loyd on 24 November 2018 in the same general area. Second report was on the same afternoon by Steve and Debbie Martin. Pete Monacell and I drove to to Old 86 Public Use Area and Campground where the Martins last reported the bird. We located the WEGR south of Cliff Point at the end of the peninsula where the Old 86 Area was located on the end off UU Highway off of MO 86. The large black and white grebe had a dark lores and black cap, with a very broad black band from the black cap to the back, a Clark's grebe would have a very narrow black band. The bill color is not discernible in Brad's photos, but appears to be a slightly greenish yellow color, not the bright orange of Clark's. This bird doesn't appear to be a hybrid.
