1.7 million of an estimated 2 million blackbirds, which is both a conservative and standard estimate for this roost. The spectacle went on for more than an hour, wave after wave, and was still continuing when I left. These birds are going down into a large field of Elephant Grass (miscanthus x giganteus) for the night.
