Interaction of types 1 or 2 and 7 in red pine, perched calls. Two song trills at 35 secs. 3rd segment: variety of atypical vocals ex. at 1:46.5, 1:53 and 1:58 secs. unknown type. Departing pines in the last segment; the type 7 doesn't appear to be in the flock. Some traffic noise interference as the red pines were ~25 metres from Hwy 60.
Behaketaren xehetasunak
**Rather rare I suppose. The unusual flight calls that I previously recorded here on Feb 18th and March 14th of this year were recorded again this morning. A Type 7 RECR was calling while perched in the crown of an old, yard red pine, with type 1 close by and type 2's further away. There was quite a bit of movement seen with some odd calls heard, given either by the type 1 or 7, or both. Precise location of recording: 45.503819 N, 77.576283 W; 305 metres elevation. In the earlier Feb and March recordings, it was thought that some of these calls were similar to type 12, but if this is a type 12 call variant, it should have been frequently recorded in the northeast over the years. That it hasn't been, to my knowledge, seems to indicate that it's probably a western call type. I've given a breeding code of 'Habitat' but I think that they were breeding here in the area. Whether it was pure type 7 pairing or mixed type breeding is impossible to know for certain.
