Had this Myiarchus flycatcher that I assumed was Ash-throated based on the smallish bill and pale yellow coloration. Doesn’t fit the other two expected species of Great-crested or Brown-crested, however there are some characteristics that also seem inconsistent with Ash-throated. The primary panel is very dull with only hints of red. The bird has a pale base to the bill and the overall size of the bill seems small even for Ash-throated. Doesn’t seem bushy-crested enough for Dusky-capped. Additionally, the auriculars are about as dark as the face and crown, would expect noticeably grayer for ATFL. EDIT (4/28/24): The bird was refound today and others were able to get better images and vocalizations that are consistent with Nutting’s Flycatcher, which now seems to be the consensus. One image shows an orange inside of the mouth, which is apparently a supporting field mark. When I first saw the bird, I immediately thought ATFL because it certainly wasn’t the other two expected. But as I kept studying, it didn’t fit that either. Many thanks to those that chimed in with feedback and especially those that refound and added additional supporting documentation. Crazy.
