Behaketaren xehetasunak
Plover slightly larger (about a quarter larger) than nearby Killdeer. This is a bird that appears to have not completed moult yet, suggesting that it may be a female bird. A slight wingtip extension past the trail feathers was evident. Depending on the light on the bird. Golden yellow and white spots noted on the back, but not extensive. Under tail coverts mostly white with some traces of black. This feature helps to throw off identification because under tail covers should be black in a bird that has undergone complete mold. A white stripe occurs above the eye and extends past the back of the eye and down sides of neck and breast, Black check and throat which extends onto breast. However, this is not as well defined and as bright as would be expected in a bit that hat undergone a complete mold. Crown, back of neck, back, wings and tail brown. In flight, bird had dark tail and uniform brown-grey underwings. Photos by Robin Alexander
