Absolutely crazy find! Saw the bird doing typical phalarope behavior and sprinted back to my car to get binoculars. Seen in the shrubby wetland to the West of the field at Little Meadow Conservation Area in Bedford. The bird is not visible from the field and I only observed it walking in waders through the wetland. Identified as red phalarope based on molting plumage with rufous red color coming in around the throat, breast and flanks. Also clear white wing bars were seen, ruling out Wilson's phalarope, when it flew up a few times within the wetland. Foraging among several buttonbush patches. Came within just a few feet of me while I observed despite my effort to maintain a respectful distance while watching. I am aware there was a large phalarope fallout in Barnstable yesterday and assume this was a lone bird that somehow ended up very inland. Will upload digi-bin photos.
