**Very rare, continuing individual first reported this afternoon by Steve B. According to his checklist comments (https://ebird.org/checklist/S120798902), “We sailed from Avalon last night arriving in San Diego at around 6am. Found on deck early morning by crew on the ship. Found between the ship (Silver Wind) and the dock, hiding below a net and around the dolphin, seen from gangway.” Bird appeared alert and in decent shape, though we never saw it flap it’s wings or dive - it spent the time we watched in the harbor floating around just north of and eventually *under* Broadway Pier. While indeed a ship-assist bird, once it entered the harbor waters, it could easily have flown away (yet didn’t). All observations were of a free-flying/swimming bird that was 100% unrestricted. A small black and white Synthliboramphus murrelet with white extending between its chin and eye, arching over its eye forming part of an eyebrow. Many photos taken, a lifer for Nathan and Mark.
