**New eBird high count for NY; and very uncommon migrant. TCL spotted these birds in flight from Towpath Rd. while we were just finishing a quick stop to look for landbirds. We ran up the road to get a better view and watched them fly high over the dike for a while before we could observe they all had white rumps and black-and-white underwings. After a period of indecision, they all circled around and landed at the far end of Knox-Marcellus. Maybe 10 minutes later, all of the shorebirds took off for a swooping Peregrine, which seemed to be most interested in chasing the godwits. The godwits, however, were too fast and the Peregrine was not able to or was too lazy to catch up to them. At this point they decided they weren't welcome and circled high over Towpath to the SE and out of view. We counted 44 birds from these flight photos, and 4 birds were later seen foraging on the mudflats. I believe all of these birds were adults.
