Two sets of a silent Rough-winged Swallow being mobbed by a group of vocal Violet-green Swallow, and as the Violet-greens depart followed by the Rough-winged, the Rough-winged vocalizes. They were fighting over a small drain pipe sticking out of a river bank
Behaketaren xehetasunak
Two Rough-winged Swallows were working the river and visiting the log jam and holes in the river bank. Occasionally they would tangle with each other (a pair?), and then tangle with the abundant Violet-greens. Just upstream from the NW corner of the park by the playground was a green pipe sticking out of the bank, and the Rough-winged would try to land there and the Violet-greens would mob it. See attached photo of a Violet-green trailing a square-tail Rough-winged, and the audio is from their fight. No sign of the Bank Swallow, but also saw Stellar Jays and a Kingfisher going into the bank holes. LATER ADD - for a moment I thought I saw one Swallow with a faster wing beat (a flutter), and that would be more characteristic of Bank than Rough-winged. And while most of the Swallows love the area downstream (north) of the park, they often run upriver for short periods.
