A male Chiming Wedgebill calling. Chiming Wedgebills (Psophodes occidentalis) provide one of the distinctive sounds of the Australian outback. Their descending ‘did-you-get-drunk’- call may be heard over long distances, but Chiming Wedgebills are shy skulkers, and usually stop singing and drop into a dense bush or mass of twigs when approached. The sexes are similar, and a pair was using this mostly dead shrub as a central point in their territory. I was fortunate to be able to get close enough to record reasonable footage and the call under very windy conditions. Elevation: 0 m. Date added to IBC: August 26, 2018.
