Behaketaren xehetasunak
At least 2, possibly 3 with Pacific Swifts. House Swift was reported by myself and Christy Davies at the same site on 01 April 2019 and by another observer at the same time just to the north. This follows on from a bird taken into care in The Gardens in January and another sighting in Nightcliff in February. There is currently a tropical low system to the north of the Top End, which is moving to the southwest, and may be bringing these birds to the area. The following features were used to identify these birds as House Swift, and to separate them from Pacific Swift, with which they were associating (and mostly in the same view): - Noticeably smaller than Pacific Swifts - Shorter winged, lacking the long sickle-shaped wings of Pacific Swifts - Shorter bodied than Pacific Swifts, with short, notched tails - Obvious white rump which extended onto the side of the body - Obvious white throat which was noticeable in good light (this feature was not so apparent during the 01 April 2019 sighting which were made in late afternoon light).
