Documentation photo only. Bird flushed up from the waters edge near where a snipe was foraging - in a region below the dam where recent flooding waters has been receding. Classic Euphagus blackbird gestalt - relatively long tail, not as long as COGR and with a slightly rounded tip when rectrices spread. The first characteristic that stood out on this bird was the rich rufous tones on the mantle as the bird flew up and perched in a low shrub. It flew up and perched in the same low shrub several times so I could view the bird from multiple angles. On one instance as the bird flew up with its back towards me the sun reflected on the rectrices showing an iridescence of purple green. While perched and in good sun, the head was an obvious rufous buffy in color with a broad and long buffy supercilium — black line running through eye. Yellow eye is obvious and can be seen in photograph.
