Detalles de la observación
One seen in cottonwoods just w of Picnic Shelter. Flock of 34 (estimate) seen along Crow Creek in the northeastern part of the entire USFS property (along "Mourning Dove Trail" east of the primitive camping sites, which are now mostly overgrown and "invisible", along the fenceline between the creek and the bluffs which eventually leads to the USFS Work Center to the east. Flock initially responded to playback of American Tree Sparrow, later somewhat to playback of Common Redpoll. Flock very "flighty", never stayed in one spot for long, went to the ground briefly, went to seeding prairie plants briefly, in Russian-olives, willows and cottonwoods. Description of birds: See photos. Small, but seemed bit bigger than siskins. Call notes were typically rather harsh "chet-chet" or "chet-chet-chet" following by zing similar to siskins. Red on forecrown, black lores and chin, brown and light gray striped otherwise.
