When I first saw the gull it was preening and from behind the yellow legs and the dark back looked like a LBBG, when it turned its head I realized it was a MEW/Common. Originally put in as Canus just because supposedly most likely but had the “look” in the field to be Kamchatka. After reviewing the photos on computer and researching especially in Olsen, Larsson I believe it is not Canus and a Kamchatka. Large, bulky, barrel chested, very dark, much darker than RBGU’s, and bill is heavy looking, long. The left outer primaries appear to be damaged so wing pattern is confusing and the flight shots could be better. PP appears to be bent, and P8 is actually in its place, tongue hard to see on P8. Pattern looks good for # 5 win tip Patterns page 32 of Olsen Larsson. Spot on P4 is also another Kamchatka feature. Also seen in Canus sometimes. I did not pursue bird after making it fly for it landed in middle of RBGU’s to take a nap and I did want to disturb. It was lowish tide coming in. The gulls during low tide stage here to preen, drink and relax before heading to Egg Rock for the night. Have more photos but won’t let me save more then 3 for some reason.
