rare but somewhat regular migrant in Hawai‘i, continuing since at least yesterday. a tiny sandpiper dwarfed by RUTU in direct comparison with a slim, slightly decurved bill, dull brownish/grayish upperparts, and yellowish legs. watched it for a while and it never appeared to show the upright posture or long-necked look expected from Long-toed Stint. toes not longer than tarsus. feeding in the typical shorebird honeyhole at the west side of the western pond, at first by itself, often not visible behind saltwort (as viewed from west) as it was on the extreme western edge of the pond, but eventually came back out and started following close behind a RUTU with which it fed
