finally got to spend some quality time with a small flock of these guys. located by their pip call and then sat with them in a tree while they feasted on pinecones for almost an hour. so rewarding. females are SO streaked. they look like pine siskin on steroids. three males at least-- varying from solid gorgeous pale red to sort of half gray half red molting. amazing life bird. thanks mt. lemmon!
