Detalles de la observación
Big surprise especially when I was specifically looking for Chipping Sparrows. Perched up on nearby low grape wire in response to my pishing and then spent a good two minutes in nearby small tree by old outhouse in central part of farm. iPhone photos only marginally useful in ID. One shot does show central dark spot on breast. I was not carrying my camera at the time and I could not relocate it once I grabbed my camera. Immediately seemed larger and more robust (more LISP size and shape) and not as brightly chestnut in the cap of the head as a CHSP. Seemingly a slightly dull individual, but ID features consistent with this species included narrowing rufous eye stripe, bi-colored bill (dark upper mandible and yellowish lower mandible), and dark spot in central chest. Other noted marks were fairly rich chestnut in uppersides with two well defined white wing bars, dingy gray undersides with warmer brown flanks. First record for BI.
