Detalles de la observación
Large white crane with dark cap. As the bird is still immature, the cap has not yet turned crimson. Bands and radio telemetry device on legs. Left leg: white over green bands and tekemetry device, right leg green/red/green. Bird identified as 16-23, or “Animal”, costume-reared in 2023 and released into the wild. She made a successful migration journey southbound to Indiana and had been observed with other WHCRs, but apparently got separated on the northbound journey. She was spotted flying south along the Evanston lakeshore then west on Dempster around 6:30 am by Janna Nugent (https://ebird.org/checklist/S169917473). She later arrived in this Wilmette residential neighborhood at 8:25 am. She was not injured and appeared healthy, albeit tired and quiet, not trying to continue her journey north. She was captured around 3:30 pm by ICF staff and taken to WI. The bands on her right leg were removed and replaced with a GPS tracker. Thank you to Brad Semel, IDNR, Dr. Barbara Royal, vet, and the staff at IFC for her rescue.
