Detalles de la observación
Jeremy Collison found/reported this bird in the late morning, subsequently seen by Ryan Zucker, Elliott Ress, Gwen Gallagher and others. I went looking for it at 2pm. Ethan Chaffee was already there. We looked for some time when Ethan spotted it loafing on one of the compost piles. Intermediate dark mantle between HEGU and LBBG. yellow bill with black&red gonydeal spot , yellow gape, dark pink/reddish legs, black primaries with small white subterminal spots and P10 mirror, white tertial crescent, streaked nape, smudgy around the eye, yellow iris, overall HEGU sized. Mantle shade slightly darker in digiscope photos than real life from quartering away angle, exposure, snow and ambient lighting. I’ve never seen this sub-species before, but it looks good from the reference material I have: Sibley Birds, Gulls of The World by Klaus M. Olsen, Gulls of The Americas by Howell/Dunn
