Detalles de la observación
Picked up by myself as Aonghus and Gerard were talking about the species and how there still weren't any records forbcounty Galway yet. First picked up on the south side behind a section of flooded wall. Swam into the NE corner, hiding in Phragmites. Later came out into the middle of the lough. Briefly chased a Little Grebe that strayed too close to it. Noticeably larger than nearby Little Grebe with a thicker neck and a fuller more blockier head shape. Distinctive pale yellow eye ring. Thicker pale bill with fairly pronounced thick black band near bill tip. Very rufous on the neck. Pronounced spiked tip to the tail feather with whitish undertail coverts. White chin patch.
