Detalles de la observación
Continuing. Watched a juvenile (1st cycle?) Jaeger sp. for about an hour from the parking lot just north of the dam. Would occasionally harass a gull for a short period of time and then rest on the water. Most of the time, the Jaeger was a significant distance from shore but made one brief pass somewhat close to shore that enabled fairly good looks with 10x binoculars. All dark, bulky, gull-sized bird with long wings and powerful flight style. Views with binoculars showed a "front-heavy" bird with a thick neck and rounded undercarriage. Also a very distinct white underwing patch when viewed in flight (unfortunately, the bird was too far away to see the "double-white flash" at the base of primaries). When viewed resting on the water, the tops of the primaries appeared all dark. All aspects point to POJA over the other two Jaeger sp. Unfortunately, the bird was always too far out to get photos that could identify the bird to the species level. However, given the good documentation that others have obtained and the unlikelihood of having two juvenile Jaeger sp. present on the lake simultaneously, I am comfortable listing the observation at the species level. Embarrassingly poor photos attached.
