Detalles de la observación
Found simultaneously by Chuck Hathcock and Lizzie Diener perched on playground equipment at Lake Andrews. Oh boy, here we go. First Called a Brown Shrike, Sulli Gibson (thanks for that) suggested we think about Red-backed Shrike. Photos do show barring on the back which is good for Red-backed Juv, and first winter birds. The Brown Shrike should have a plainer less barred brown back in first winter. Also the mask seems brown, not as black as in a Brown Shrike. We were sent some field guide information showing a much shorter outer tail feather in Brown Shrike. We have one photo showing that the outer tail feather R6 is just shorter than the R5, which fits with Red-backed, that Photo taken by Mike Hill. 4 members in our group, Chuck Hathcock, Mike Hill, Lizzie Diener, and John Diener. Thanks again Sulli and Gus for the ID help! Tough one, good lesson for sure.
