Detalles de la observación
Banded and released as part of permitted Intermountain Bird Observatory research. A hybrid individual! After conferring with Sheri Williamson (thanks a TON Sheri!) we believe a hybrid BCHU x BTHU is the best option. (We considered BCHU x RUHU but see notes to follow). Notes from the field: Hatch year. Presumed male. Band size E. 46 wing, 27 tail. 18.8 culmen. Heavy and odd spangling on throat, very dense (dark gray-green, and not round like a RUHU or BTHU would show. More like extremely heavy BCHU-shape spangles). Dark gray auriculars (Like BCHU). More extensive buffy tipping on head (like a BCHU) All-green central tail (R1) with very wide oval shape (doesn't fit RUHU coloration) Pointed R3-5 with quite a lot of rufous. Some rufous on sides, but mixed with odd greenish gray on flanks. Also noted by Sheri Williamson in communication about this bird: Narrow P6, broad P10, dark face, and triangular tip on R5 fit Black-chinned as one parent. For second parent, the R2 shape and wider R5 fit best for Broad-tailed. Culmen and wing/tail fit BTHU better than RUHU as well.
