Detalles de la observación
Interesting individual noticed several days later in photos taken by Aaron of the entire flock. The bird in question is in the center of the images, with an apparently extremely short bill that looks to be outside of the range of variation for WESA. We asked Steve Rottenborn for help on the ID, and he thought the breast, head, and upperpart patterning looked better for SESA rather than WESA. The photos show less rufous and dark coloration on this bird's scapulars than those of the adjacent WESA. This bird also looks slightly smaller than nearby WESA. However, we never observed this bird in the field, and bill shape and length can be difficult to judge from photos (especially of this quality) so we would prefer to leave it as a slash to be safe, even though in all likelihood this is a SESA.
