Detalles de la observación
4th Ketchikan record - Christy Ruby called to tell me she'd seen a grackle in her yard at Strawberry Lane earlier in the morning (at about 4:00am). I arrived at 10:20am and we saw the bird fly up out of the tiny brushy creek that runs through the side of her lot. The bird sat up in a tree for about 15 minutes while we watched. It appeared to be a female, judging from the brownish (not glossy/colorful) wing coverts, back, and rump. Easily identified by its large size (much larger than a robin), thick bill with slightly curved culmen (much larger bill than exhibited by smaller blackbirds), glossy bluish head, yellow eye, and distinctly wedge-shaped tail.
