Detalles de la observación
Seen sitting in a northern red oak at these coordinates (44.581663, -69.014452) on Curtis Road in Monroe. This bird was found at this location earlier this morning by John Wyatt, likely feeding on something dead in the woods with a Turkey Vulture. I joined John at 0816, and we relocated the bird around 0832. After watching for around 5 minutes in the oak, the bird flew to a high perch in the top of a dead tree nearby where it sat for a few more minutes. It then flew south paralleling Curtis Road and we lost it behind the trees. ID clearly caracara by the long yellow legs, upright posture. C. plancus by the dark brown upperparts and underparts, pale cream colored chest and neck with barring on chest and mantle, salmon-orange facial skin, pale blueish bill, and long tail that is whitish proximally with fine barring becoming more prominent distally before a large dark terminal band. C. p. cheriway by the solid dark brown lower back that was observed in flight, and less extensive/dense barring on breast, mantle, and tail.
