Detalles de la observación
**Rare but increasing migrant found earlier this morning by Nick Kachala. Heard singing near entrance, an emphatic "peeSAH", with resonating quality vaguely suggesting Hairy Woodpecker. Only heard it sing twice, about three minutes appart. We didn’t see it when we heard it but found it about 45 minutes later as we were leaving when it was right alongside the trail at the exit/entrance at which time were able to get photos and video. At that time it was silent (3:30). Fairly large Empid with broad bill and long wings. This individual appeared quite a bit browner than the bird we saw yesterday at Hamlin with a brownish wash across breast. Also unlike the Hamlin bird, this bird also showed contrast in wing coverts suggesting late winter molt on wintering grounds -- a fresh greater covert and two median coverts (both longer, with broader and buffier tips). According to Allen et. al (BNA): "timing and extent of First Prealternate and Definitive Prealternate molts are similar (33). Includes body feathers (perhaps most heavily on throat and breast) and sometimes (in ca. 25% of birds) 1–2 inner greater coverts and 1–3 tertials (33, 1, 34)". REFERENCE: Allen, M. C., M. M.
