MEGA*** Yesterday's find by Doug Gochfeld continues. Extremely rare in the east, with just one other record in eBird in NYS and 3 others in the eastern US (one additional record from Newfoundland). Having never seen any of the western subspecies of FOSP I used my time with it to document and soak up binocular views. While different lighting conditions and whether or not the bird was in shadow did change this observers impression at times. Those differences centered around how much red was coming through in the wings and tail vs when the bird was in shadow and it seemed to lose all the red color. Photos added show some of this variation. Really interesting bird and so dark compared to our 'red" FOSP. Photos and video
