Detalles de la observación
A Spanish name for this Neotropical siskin is "Cabecitanegra" which means "Blackhead." However only adult males such as this have their head black. This species resembles the Saffron Siskin of Ecuador and adjacent Peru. Interestingly genetics indicate that some Hooded Siskin populations are closer to Saffron Siskin than to other races of their own species. Thus the current Hooded Siskin may need to be divided into more than one species. Uruguayan birds are assigned to the nominate race. Formerly placed in the genus "Carduelis" but recently transferred with all other Neotropical siskins to "Spinus" based on genetic analysis.
