The bird is in the middle of the photo, with one Lesser Scaup to the left of it, and two LESC to the right of it. You can see tuft at its nape as it is captured preening.
Detalles de la observación
A male diving duck that was similar in appearance to the nearby Lesser Scaup and Ring-necked Ducks, but it had much whiter flanks than the Scaup and a black back. The bird had a blackish head, bright yellow eyes, and a blue bill. Seen in profile, the large tuft at the back of its head, protruding from its nape, was obvious. The bird fed by diving. Seen well from within 160 - 180 m as it moved around the lake with the other divers. Watched using a spotting scope. Photo attached.
