One bird probably a female; Behavior accompanying vocalization: first: alarm note calls (walking), second: flight notes at take off.; Recordist's Note: "When not vocalizing bird was standing very still with an occasional slight movement.; Recording a horned lark (#2) when the Surfbird's alarm notes were first heard. The Horned Lark moved and the parabola was then focused on the Surfbird. A Lapland Longspur began singing on the slope just above the Surfbird. The Surfbird remained quiet for some time then began moving about as if it might take off.The recorder was turned on and within a very short time the Surfbird took off giving a series of rattling calls as recorded on this tape.". Habitat: Tundra.
