Male Bishop calling and performing multiple flight displays. Single American Redstart-like calls were generally given while the bird was perched. The several series where the calls speed up were given upon the male bishop launching forward off his perch. The courtship flight would last a couple of seconds as the male flew from one perch to the other, keeping his body upright in an odd vertical position, while fluffing out his nape and rump feathers. Each wingbeat was exaggerated and caused his body to jerk forward, punctuated by his sharp piercing calls. Towards the end of the flight, the calls speed up and are also accompanied with a mechanical snapping, presumably from his bill as he went to land (and mechanical sounds + calls continued after perching). Quite a fascinating and fun display to watch!
