Detalles de la observación
A pair of these regal terns were loafing and preening on the sandbar at the south end with several AWPE, numerous RBGU, plus a few CAGU. Slightly larger than adjacent RBGU – about the same size as CAGU. It's always a treat to see this species!!! :) Distant records shots obtained - with one “back of camera” image attached. Will add more when we get home! Field marks noted: Large head, slightly crested towards rear of crown; black cap extending below eye; massive, dagger-shaped coral red bill with dusky subterminal band and yellowish tip; upperparts pale gray, underparts, rump and slightly-forked tail white; outer primaries were dark, especially on the undersides – this was especially noticeable when one bird briefly flapped its broad, pointed wings; dark legs. NEW for 2022!!!
