standing Cackling with Ross's Goose behind
Detalles de la observación
continuing small chinstrap goose first discovered the previous evening, hanging with domestic Canada flock and lone wild Ross's. Better observation today. Bird actually 10% larger than the Ross's but still dwarfed by all of the 19 domestic Canadas--bird was easy to pick out among the others. Body plumage subtly different from the domestic Canadas--more of a "cold" gray overall color on the Cackling versus "warmer"/browner on the domestic Canadas. Bill morphology very different as noted yesterday. Sibley says Cackling posture while feeding is with head and neck more straight down versus angled forward for Canada. FWIW, this detail held true during my observations this afternoon.
