Detalles de la observación
Confirmed rarity. First winter bird with similar markings except smaller than Northern & Loggerhead shrikes. It was brown to rich-brown rather than gray to gray-black. Crown, rump and tail were rich red-brown, almost cinnamon colored, but late afternoon lighting may have contributed to glaring bright coloration. Whitish cheeks, throat, belly with slight barring on flanks. Hooked bill with pale-pinkish base. Eye "ring" conspicuous in afternoon lighting. Observed it drop down into weed/grasses and return to a nearby perch with prey (some kind of insect). Mediocre/poor photos.
