Detalles de la observación
Five were at the DNR boat ramp east of Gauley Bridge and flew off upriver. A few minutes later six more flew in from downriver. The first group showed an interesting behavior. From time to time they would plow through the water with their bills while they were swimming. Like they were shoveling it. This would go on for a distance of around 8-feet. A couple of photos are included which show them doing this. I don't have a lot of experience with mergansers and have not seen that before. Looking for food? Cleaning their bills?
